
Officials say they’re hopeful pirates will release the crew of a Manx-registered vessel which was seized yesterday.
The Manx-flagged oil tanker, owned by a Greek company, was taken with her 24 crew off the coast of Togo yesterday after a gun battle with a navy patrol.
David Morter of the Isle of Man Ship Register says recent attacks have been about stealing the cargo rather than ransoming those aboard.
And he says attacks in the area don’t tend to make the same headlines as those near Somalia:
