Shipping terminal project leaps forward

Potential new multi-million pound facility

A project which could ultimately lead to a new £3.5 million shipping terminal in Liverpool for Island ferry passengers has reached the concept design stage.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer confirmed the position in Tynwald yesterday (Tuesday) and said several meetings had been held with Liverpool City Council and Heritage England.

He said land based site investigations and quay wall surveys had been completed and an environmental impact assessment was underway.

Tenders are now being sought for marine based site investigations, Mr Harmer added.

Tynwald last year approved plans to purchase the Princes Half-Tide dock for a new terminal to replace the existing Pier Head facility, half a mile up-river, which is to be redeveloped as a cruise liner terminal.
