22-year-old ordered to work with probation service for 12 months
A shop worker from Port Erin who was caught stealing from the till to help pay child maintenance has been ordered to work with the probation service.
CCTV showed Jacob Luke Chadwick, of Edremony, taking more than £215 as well as two pot noodles and three packets of crisps.
At Douglas Courthouse the 22-year-old admitted the offence which took place at Ballachrink Stores in Onchan between 2 and 8 February; he’d only been working at the shop for a month
Addressing magistrates Chadwick’s probation officer said he was ‘deeply remorseful’ adding: “He’s very much aware that what he did was wrong.”
“He very much needs some support,” she told the court, “He knows that he’s made a terrible mistake - he presented to me as a young man with the weight of the world on his shoulders.”
Imposing a 12-month probation order Magistrates told Chadwick: “We do understand that you are very remorseful and that life has weighed very heavily on you. We wish you well on this journey.”
Chadwick has also been ordered to pay the money he stole back to the shop owner.
