Charity delighted with the announcement
The head of Beach Buddies says another supermarket committing to a plastic bag charge is 'absolutely wonderful'.
Shoprite will introduce the 5p levy from 5 March, joining Tesco and Marks & Spencer as outlets which make people pay for bags.
As well as cleaning Island beaches and public footpaths with its volunteers, Beach Buddies - via its founder, Bill Dale - has been raising awareness about the impact plastic is having on nature and wildlife.
He's delighted with Shoprite's announcement:
Local mobile catering company Filbey's to call it a day
