Silver again for Douglas

Douglas is celebrating today after winning a Britain in Bloom silver achievement award.

For the second year running the Island’s capital has secured the accolade in the large towns and small cities section of the contest.

A delegation from Douglas Corporation received the award at last night’s awards ceremony in Coventry Cathedral.

Judge Susan Smith praised the enthusiasm from the town’s community and said there were lots of positive initiatives.

She highlighted the attractive summer displays and hanging baskets on public buildings in the town centre, as well as referring to sustainable development initiatives such as the use of recycled glass, crushed for use in golf course bunkers, and brick pavers.
