The skipper of a Cumbrian fishing vessels has been fined £5,000 for taking undersized scallops.
Brian McGuirk, of the Bonnie Lass had his vessel boarded off Port St Mary by officers from the fisheries protection vessel Barrule.
The boat was found to have a quantity of scallops on board, with shells below the legal minimum size of 110mm. McGuirk of Maryport, Cumbria pleaded guilty to the offence.
The vessel was detained until the fine was paid and all undersized scallops were disposed of.
