Social distancing no longer a legal requirement

A series of changes to coronavirus restrictions come into force today

Today sees a significant number of changes to the Island's coronavirus measures, including the end of social distancing.

Manx residents are no longer legally required to remain two metres apart following a run of 25 days with no new cases of Covid-19.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle confirmed social distancing is no longer deemed necessary to protect the community from coronavirus.

It will be up to individual businesses if they choose to keep restrictions in place, while tighter rules will still be used in healthcare settings.

The all-Island speed limit of 40mph increases to 60mph, and a new summer bus timetable comes into force.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes can open their doors to indoors diners from today, while gyms are also permitted to reopen, although exercise classes can't resume yet.

Today's changes in full:

  • Social distancing of 2 metres is no longer a legal requirement.
  • The all-Island speed limit increases from 40mph to 60mph.
  • A new summer bus timetable comes into force.
  • Passengers travelling with the Steam Packet Company must wear a facemask or covering to comply with UK public transport regulations.
  • The limit on outdoor gatherings increases from 10 to 30. Indoor gatherings remain at two from one other household. This will be reviewed by the Council of Ministers today.
  • All schools are permitted to reopen today for staff to prepare for the return of pupils. Children who have been attending hub schools will return to their normal school from Wednesday.
  • Nurseries and child minders can reopen from today.
  • Restaurants and cafes can begin serving food inside. Pubs can also reopen, but only to those purchasing a substantive meal.
  • Gyms are able to reopen, but can not yet run exercise classes.
  • The Villa Marina Gardens are reopening daily between 9am and 4pm.
