Some coastal roads and proms to close for Storm Ciara

Castletown promenade

Amber weather warning in place

The Department of Infastructure says Castletown promenade, Laxey promenade, Douglas prom between Summerhill and Port Jack, and Shore Road in Rushen are all due to close at 9pm on Saturday and will then be monitored.

That's the time the amber weather warning for coastal overtopping also comes into effect.

Both remain in place until 1.30pm on Sunday.

The Met Office says gale to severe gale force winds will create very rough waves and bring significant amounts of sea water and debris onto exposed coastal roads and promenades around the next couple of high tides (around 11pm Saturday and 11.20am Sunday).

Between midday on Saturday and and midday on Sunday high-sided vehicles are prohibited from using the Mountain Road.

Highway Services will have people on duty at Ellerslie control room overnight tonight and tomorrow morning.

In addition to its normal standby staff, there will be extra volunteers ready to respond to any storm-related calls.
