Girls open up with prose for competition
An eye-opening visit to a World War I battlefield provided two local sisters with the inspiration to win in a nationwide arts competition.
Ealish and Ophelia Watts, aged 13 and 11, traveled to the Lochnagar Crater, in the Somme, as part of a family holiday last year.
Upon their return, the girls were moved to pen emotive pieces of prose for the annual 'Impressions of Lochnagar' contest.
Castle Rushen pupil Ealish scooped first prize in her category - while Ophelia, who goes to Arbory School, took second.
The girls explained what they wrote about:
Neonatal Care Leave 'would have been invaluable to us as a family'
Chair of Castletown Commissioners says town needs to 'maximise' use of Market Square
Arbory and Rushen Commissioners planning new family focussed leisure facility
