Sophia Morrison award for short story

Paul Salmon's 'Yn Doolane' wins award

Paul Salmon from Ramsey has been announced as the winner of the Aundyr Sophia Morrison award for his short story.

The award was launched in February, seeking submissions of between 600 and 1,000 words.

Mr Salmon's story Yn Doolane, which means 'the challenge' in Manx, scooped a certificate and £100 cash prize at 'a Manks Concert for Sophia Morrison' held at the Peel Centenary Centre, on the 160th anniversary of her birth - on 24 May 1859.

He was presented with the award on stage by Stewart Bennett, vice-president of the Manx branch of the Celtic Congress and president of Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh (the Manx Gaelic Society).
