Treasury says now is not time to 'attribute blame'

"The Manxman is trying to cover a lot of bases."

That’s the message from the Steam Packet after it was confirmed that the £80 million - taxpayer funded vessel - will be out of service until late September.

Investigations into what exactly has gone wrong with the boat’s shaft bearings are continuing.

The Steam Packet revealed yesterday (28 July) that specialist repair and machining work is needed.

It says it understands this is 'hugely disappointing' for customers but says its 'overriding priority' is working with specialist engineers to complete the essential repairs safely and to the highest standard.

The Ben-my-Chree has been brought in to cover passenger sailings and the MV Arrow is assisting with the provision of freight.

Treasury says now is not the time to ‘attribute blame’ after speculation that the issues have been caused by a lack of dredging in Douglas Harbour.
