Speculation mounts as to who will be chief minister

Allinson won't pass up opportunity - Ashford rules himself out

Speculation is already mounting about who will take the top job in the Manx Government.

The position could go to any of the 24 MHKs elected as a result of yesterday's General Election.

In previous years the chief minister was elected at the first sitting of the new Tynwald.

Now, however, members will have until 12 October to consider who to put in charge.

Health Minister David Ashford has already ruled out the position for himself but Education Minister Dr Alex Allinson says it's not an opportunity he'd pass up:

After a successful fourth election, in Rushen, Juan Watterson is now the longest-serving MHK and received the most votes overall yesterday.

He was asked if he'd put his hat in the ring:
