Speed limits to be considered case-by-case

Chief Minister rules out imminent introduction of all-Island speed limit

The chief minister insists there are no imminent plans for a blanket speed limit on all derestricted roads.

When asked about the government's policy in this month's Tynwald sitting, Howard Quayle confirmed routes with no upper limit will be reviewed following the introduction of the road safety strategy.

He says speed caps will be considered for individual cases:

There will be economic consequences if an all-Island speed limit is introduced.

That's the view of former chairman of the Moddey Dhoo Club Andy Scullard.

He believes there would be a hit on visitor numbers for the road race meetings like the TT, and he's concerned about other events such as car owner weekends:
