Steam Packet open to working with food producers on exports

But the operator warns there's no 'magic money tree' to meet the costs

The Steam Packet Company says it's open to working with food producers looking to export their goods, but warns there isn't 'a magic money tree'.

The comments come after the chief officer of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture told a Tynwald committee the cost of freight is putting some local businesses off sending their products across.

Managing Director Brian Thomson insists the Steam Packet's door is always open, and the company would be willing to help any business looking to send produce to off-Island markets.

But, he says the cost of transport to and from the Island is unavoidable:
