Storm Emma batters Island

Evening sailing cancelled

This evening's (Thurs) Heysham sailing has been cancelled.

A decision on the sailing wasn't expected until 5.30 but the announcement was made by the Steam Packet shortly after 3pm.

A decision on tomorrow morning's sailing will be made by the master of the vessel at 7am.

High winds from Storm Emma are continuing to batter the Island causing some problems around the Island today (Thurs)

Police say part of Duke Street between Victoria Street and Wellington Street is closed after slates were being blown into the street. Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area.

There is also a substantial area of pavement cordoned off between Tower House and Jaks along Loch Promenade and some slates falling into the road in Sydney Street.

Police are also warning motorists to be aware of sheet ice in places on Island roads.

They say rain water has been pouring onto the main road, especially on the B39 through Colby Glen and around the Reservoir area.

It's hoped DOI gritters can get there this afternoon (Thurs)

The Tholt y Will Road remains closed due to ice however the Brandywell Road is now open.
