Storm Franklin: wind gusts up to 110mph recorded on Snaefell

Sailing schedule altered due to adverse weather

Wind gusts of up to 110mph were recorded on the mountain overnight as the Island was hit by Storm Franklin.

An amber warning for storm force winds and coastal overtopping was put in place overnight.

Neil Young at the Ronaldsway Met Office spoke with Chris Williams after the data was recorded:

Meanwhile this morning the Ballanard Road was closed between Jonny Wattersons Lane and Abbeylands Crossroads due to a fallen tree but has now reopened.

A tree (as seen below) is still blocking the road between St Marks Crossroads and Clannagh Road Junction - the Department of Infrastructure says the road will stay closed until 5pm.

Manx Utilities is also reporting problems with electricity supplies in the Kerrowmoar area near Sulby - staff are on site to restore it as soon as possible.

High-sided vehicles were advised to stay off the mountain until at least 9am.

Changes to sailings

This morning's 8:45am sailing to Heysham has been delayed until 10:30am and will return later at 4pm.

Meanwhile, this evening's 7:45pm journey will depart at 9pm and return at the slightly later time of 3am.

The Ben-my-Chree stayed in Douglas overnight, so there are no papers in the shops this morning.
