Student Kirsty remembers 'Granny Idaho'

A Manx graduate has paid tribute to an American woman who welcomed generations of students from the Isle of Man into her home.

Phyllis le Tourneau, affectionately known as 'Granny Idaho', died on Tuesday aged 85.

Over the years, Mrs le Tourneau and husband Duane put up more than 40 Manx students during the first few days of their studies at the University of Idaho, on the Ella Olesen scholarship.

The year-long programme for female graduates was named after the couple's former neighbour who was of Manx descent.

Twenty-six-year-old Kirsty Pendlebury studied in Idaho from 2008 to 2009 and is now training to be a weather forecaster in Exeter.

She says 'Granny Idaho' was a special woman and she will never forget her:
