39-year-old warned custody could be an option at sentencing
A supermarket worker has admitted stealing more than £9,000 from the fast-food outlet she was employed to manage.
Lisa Pailing, of Ballamaddrell, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where she admitted two counts of theft.
Police were called to Shoprite in Port Erin after managers became suspicious about the ‘abnormally large’ number of refunds that were being processed through the Subway outlet.
CCTV also caught her inputting a refund without there being a customer present.
The 38-year-old was the general manager of the sandwich bar and was the only person within the supermarket who had authority to issue refunds for it.
When questioned she admitted what she’d done - between 28 April and 29 September last year - saying she’d used the money for food, clothes and bills.
Checks showed she’d also issued £410 worth of refunds at the Subway in Peel Shoprite between 15 June and 5 September.
The prosecutor told the court the Port Erin woman had no previous convictions but described it as a ‘significant breach of trust’.
A Social Enquiry Report has been requested before Pailing is sentenced on 4 April; she’s been bailed until that date.
