Surgery in school idea moves forward

A meeting has been held on the idea of a GP surgery for Kirk Michael being located in the village primary school.

Minister for Health David Anderson, Michael MHK David Cannan and representatives of the local commissioners and the school's staff discussed the possibility of Ramsey-based GPs holding surgeries in a part of the building which is seen as surplus to requirements.

The area, in the oldest part of the school, could be divided off from the rest of the building to give a seperate entrance, waiting room, consulting room and toilets.

Currently GPs hold surgeries at a temporary facility in the Cannan Court sheltered housing complex, where space is at a premium.

The idea has been put forward by Minister for Education and Children Eddie Teare who says local residents must decide if they want it to happen (first part of audio file):
