Maritime veteran recognised for decades of dedication
A retired Isle of Man harbour pilot was left speechless after a surprise tribute was unveiled in his honour at Ramsey’s Queen’s Pier.
Captain Stephen Carter, who served as a harbour pilot for 29-years, had been invited to the pier by Loganair Captain and former MHK Paul Quine under the impression that he was there to see a plaque dedicated to Paul’s late father.
However, Paul had arranged an additional tribute - a plaque recognising Stephen’s long service guiding vessels safely into Manx waters.

“What a lovely thing to happen to me. It’s so nice that someone thinks enough of you to do that"
Speaking with Manx Radio's Chris Pearson, he added that he was truly lost for words at the unexpected gesture:
