Luke Alan Leonard Compton, of Empress Drive, admitting breaking into the house in Willaston with an accomplice.
Appearing before Deputy High Bailiff Alastair Montgomerie, Compton was sentenced to four months in jail suspended for two years.
The court heard Compton and another man went to the house in Snaefell Road and broke a pane of glass to get inside.
They stole a video player, DVD player and medication before going to his accomplice's grandmother.

Compton's advocate said her client had problems with alcohol abuse and was now receiving help.
