Vessel had been expected to remain in the SPC fleet as a backup freight carrier
Talks have taken place over whether the Steam Packet Company needs to maintain the Ben-my-Chree as a backup freight vessel now that it owns the MV Arrow.
Treasury Minister Alex Allinson confirmed while giving evidence to a Tynwald committee that the operator is currently required to keep the former flagship as part of the Sea Services Agreement.
The arrival of the Manxman last summer saw the Ben taken off regular passenger sailings.
Dr Allinson says the future of the ferry remains uncertain:

Warning in place for coastal overtopping
