Taxi strikes planned today

There'll be industrial action today by cab drivers in protest at Government plans to delimit the island's taxi trade and allow new operators into what has traditionally been a tightly regulated industry.

Transport Minister David Anderson is hoping to progress the matter in Tynwald next week.

Chairman of the Manx Taxi Federation Ray Teare (pictured) says his members rejected the idea of a 24-hour strike in favour of more targeted action - for an hour this morning at the airport and later tonight in Douglas:
