An all-staff email from DESC had raised concerns for some members of staff

Teaching staff ARE going to be paid for last week's snow day.

It's after the education minister couldn't say for sure after being quizzed by politicians.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture has confirmed teachers, lecturers and staff at schools and UCM will, in line with long-standing practice, be paid when the facilities are closed because of adverse weather.

In the House of Keys this week, the minister hadn't been able to guarantee this after communication had allegedly been sent to staff saying those who'd stayed at home would not receive their salaries.

DESC says some staff had sought clarification after an all-staff bulletin outlining the public service's policy was sent round, although the department says it did make clear there were separate protocols for schools and teaching staff.

Daphne Caine MHK says she wants to reassure them that they will be paid, and this has always been the department's position.
