Teen arrested for breaking lockdown rules

Eighteen-year-old caught socialising

A teenager from Douglas has admitted breaking lockdown rules by socialising at a house in Pulrose.

Eighteen-year-old Rosemary Burgess of Clifton Terrace appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.

She admitted one count of breaching the Island's Emergency Powers Act, but has yet to enter a plea to a charge of stealing as mountain bike.

The hearing was told police wanted to speak to Burgess about the alleged theft, which is said to have taken place on 26 April.

Officers found Burgess wasn’t at home – but a tipoff led them to an address in Heather Crescent where they found her socialising with others.

Two of the people she was with, including the tenant, were given fixed penalty notices but she was arrested and taken into custody.

Mrs Hughes told Burgess she'd committed a serious offence by breaching the regulations and socialising with other people.

She remanded her to the Isle of Man Prison and Burgess will appear again on 21 May.
