17-year-old pleads guilty to breaking speed limit

A teenager from Ramsey was clocked doing more than 70mph despite displaying R-plates.

Seventeen-year-old James Read of Waterloo Road pleaded guilty to breaking the 50mph limit imposed on R-plate driver via a coroner's admission when his case was called by magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Police were doing speed checks at Hillberry on 9 May when their equipment showed his Ford Fiesta doing 71mph.

He was fined £200, ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and had three points imposed on his licence.
