Teenager jailed for assaulting police officer

Ramsey girl also admits theft charge

A Ramsey teenager serving a suspended jail term for assaulting police is behind bars, after committing the same offence four months later.

Seventeen-year-old Katie Alice O’Sullivan of North Shore Road appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting police and theft on 5 October and 4 November respectively.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon said O’Sullivan had been arrested on unrelated matters when she punched an officer in the face at police headquarters just after 4am on 5 October.

A month later, O’Sullivan went into the Co-op on Christian Street in Ramsey and walked out with a bottle of vodka worth £7.50, staff later reviewed CCTV and alerted police.

Miss Cubbon said O’Sullivan had been convicted of similar offences in July last year and had numerous previous convictions.

Her advocate described the teenager’s personality as “Jekyll and Hyde” because she could be polite and intelligent but made the wrong decisions when alcohol was involved.

Mr Arrowsmith activated 10 weeks of her suspended sentence and imposed an extra eight weeks in prison for the new offences.
