Emergency laws helped those unable to pay rent
Laws protecting tenants from being evicted for rent arrears during the Covid-19 pandemic will cease on Boxing Day.
The emergency powers only related to the payment of rent, and landlords were still able to issues eviction notices for other reasons such as criminal damage.
The Office of Fair Trading is appealing to landlords to make "reasonable allowances that take account of the financial circumstances" of many who have lost income during the past several months.
