Tent village plan for NSC

The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure says it wants to host another campsite at the National Sports Centre for TT 2014.

Last year, similar plans saw the grass area inside the athletics track closed off during practice and race week to host a corporate campsite for Metzeler Tyres.

Now, the department has applied for planning permission to run the site annually as of next year, saying it brings huge economic benefits to local businesses and the NSC itself.

The department says it’s seeking blanket cover to host the campsite for 15 days during each festival with security and maintenance staff.

The department says it plans to ban fires, barbecues and smoking on the site, limit nighttime noise and maintain access for athletes.

The tent village, with up to 436 campers, would be manned by NSC staff as well as event company personnel and a security team.

A 10-foot high fence would close off the area, which would be registered with the Isle of Man Tourism Board.

In its application, the department says the NSC’s pool, sauna, spa and other facilities would receive a welcome boost – as would Domino's Pizza, Total fuels, McDonalds, the Quarterbridge pub and Elegance Taxis.
