Testing and self-isolation 'mitigates risk of compassionate travel'

Applications for exemptions to be considered from tomorrow

Coronavirus testing and self-isolation for those coming to the Isle of Man to attend funerals or visit sick relatives will mitigate the risk to the general public.

That's from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper after it was confirmed applications for travel for compassionate reasons will be considered from tomorrow.

Such visits have been halted since changes to the border policy were brought in at the end of 2020.

Mr Hooper says the measures should provide adequate defence against spread in the community:

Meanwhile, those who aren't Island residents can't apply for money from the Manx Solidarity Fund for coronavirus testing if they visit for compassionate reasons.

Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson suggested the charity would be able to assist those struggling to cover the cost of three tests when coming to the Isle of Man when the matter was discussed in Tynwald.

Anyone arriving on the Island has to undergo testing three times, or self-isolate for 21 days.
