Theft admitted by woman who conned TT visitors

Due to be sentenced in May

A court's heard a woman from Douglas took deposits from two TT visitors who wanted a place to stay – only to let them down at the start of the festival.

Appearing before magistrates at Douglas courthouse, Kathryn Kelly of Drury Terrace admitted two counts of theft.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the hearing Kelly took £700 from the two men late in 2017, promising they could rent flats during 2018’s festival.

But when they arrived on the Island, Kelly had vanished and the accommodation wasn’t available.

The court heard the visitors were forced to find alternative accommodation at the start of the 2018 event.

Forty-six-year-old Kelly also admitted another two counts of theft, relating to items she’d shoplifted in Superdrug and Marks and Spencer in Douglas between October and December.

Another two charges, of fraud by false representation, were withdrawn.

Kelly was bailed in the sum of £500 and will appear for sentencing on 16 May.
