A Poppy Appeal collection box has been stolen from outside Maughold Church, prompting police to launch an investigation into what they are calling 'a despicable crime'.
The box was taken from the church some time on Wednesday afternoon, four days before it was due to be presented to the Royal British Legion at the Service of Remembrance on Sunday, November 11.
In a media release, the Northern Neighbourhood Policing team said: 'This is a despicable offence. To steal donations belonging the Royal British Legion from inside a church, the day before Armistice Day, is totally unacceptable'.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Pc Creer at Ramsey Police Station on 812234 or ring the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
