Thousands of pounds stolen in handbag robbery

A handbag which was taken from a woman in Douglas yesterday had a large amount of money in it, police have revealed.

She was robbed in the service lane at the back of the Rosemount pub at around 2.35pm.

During the incident she sustained minor injuries.

The bag contained around £5,000 in cash and a number of personal items.

Police say they're looking for a man who's described as around 5'6" to 5'8" tall, in his early to mid twenties, with a dark, stubbly beard.

He was wearing a black hooded top at the time.

Officers have searched the immediate area around the Rosemount for any discarded items from the bag, but are asking people who live nearby to check their bins, gardens and yards.

The bag itself is described as a medium-sized, black, imitation leather handbag with two shoulder straps.

If you have any information about the incident call police headquarters on 631212, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
