Threats after sex education row 'verge into the realm of terrorism'

Armed police officers were seen at Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel on Monday evening

Manx Labour Party member hits out at 'anti-LGBT lobby'

Threats in response to concerns over the Island's sex education curriculum 'verge into the realm of terrorism'.

That's from a spokeperson for the Manx Labour Party, after it called for government to do more to combat hate aimed towards the Island's LGBT community.

Teachers at QEII High School in Peel have been sent death threats after 'inaccurate' reports of what occurred in the lessons circulated online and in international media.

Manx Radio understands the recent bomb hoax, which led to students being evacuated and an armed police response, was also motivated by those reports.

Devon Watson says government needs to be quicker to stop the spread of misinformation:

'Young LGBTQ people are terrified because all this has stirred up hatred.'

Meanwhile, Alan Shea - former gay rights campaigner on the Island - says recent interactions online, which include threats, have made him concerned for his safety.

But he believes the children in the schools will be more worried:

The Isle of Man Constabulary and the Isle of Man Government have been contacted for comment.
