Three people charged with Christmas drink-driving

Three people were charged with drinking and driving over the festive period in the Island – one fewer than a year ago.

Police have confirmed they arrested seven drivers on suspicion of drink-driving during the Christmas and New Year campaign, charging three and releasing the other four with no further action.

Sergeant Allan Thompson of the Roads Policing Unit says the figures show a discernible decrease in arrests and prosecutions compared to the previous two years.

There were 12 arrests with four charged last year and 19 arrests and 16 charged in 2012.

Sergeant Thompson says the joint campaign by police, public health and the road safety team has provided greater exposure - including via social media - on all spheres of drink related issues and shows what an anti-social and dangerous risk it is.
