Three speakers at Illiam Dhone ceremony

The annual Illiam Dhone ceremony will be held at Hango Hill in Castletown this afternoon (Fri)

The traditional outdoor ceremony held by Manx nationalists at 2pm sees orations in English and Manx.

In a break from tradition there will be three speakers at this year.

The speech in English will be given by President of the London Manx Society Alistair Kneale, whilst the oration in Manx will be by 18 year old student Cesar Joughin.

Chairman of Mec Vannin, Mark Kermode, will also address those gathered at the Hill, the site of Dhone's execution.

A service at Malew Parish church celebrating the life of Illiam Dhone takes place at 2.45pm and the speaker there will be Canon Phillip Gillespie from St Mary's church.

Illiam Dhone who was shot for his part in handing the Island over to parliamentary forces during the English Civil War.

Opinion is divided as to whether he should be regarded as a traitor or a patriot.
