'Time right' to review open skies policy

Tynwald committee to explore options

A Tynwald committee's to take a fresh look at the Island's open skies policy, where air carriers compete without restriction for passengers and routes.

Residents and businesses are invited to give their views on whether the current system safeguards services - and is in the Island's best interests.

Open skies has been in place for more than 20 years, with previous reviews rejecting proposals for a licencing regime, which would place service obligations on operators at Ronaldsway.

Until now, competition has been seen as the best way to attract carriers - but could recent upheaval in the aviation industry jeopardise services?

That question will be considered as the committee examines the bigger picture.
