'Time to work together' on future of swimming pools

Government wants to transfer them to education department

The infrastructure minister says it's time to work together on the future of the Island's regional swimming pools.

At January's Tynwald sitting, Education Sport and Culture Minister Julie Edge will set the ball rolling on a piece of work to cost a long-term plan to transfer the Island's pools into her department and form "Regional Sports Hubs".

They're currently run by regional boards, made up of representatives from local authorities.

A recent report found that the facilities- especially the Southern Swimming Pool - had a lack of governance which resulted in financial challenges.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Thomas says it's time for the local authorities to sit down with his department and the Department of Education, Sport and Culture to find a way forward - including financially:
