Time wasted in LegCo debate, says CALM

Bill passes second reading in upper chamber

A member of CALM - the Campaign for Abortion Law Modernisation - says she believes a lot of time was wasted during debate on the Abortion Reform Bill in the Legislative Council yesterday (Tues).

Members of Tynwald's upper chamber voted almost unanimously in favour of the Abortion Reform Bill, which was having its second reading in LegCo.

Only the Lord Bishop, Peter Eagles, voted against the motion.

Stephanie Kelsey from CALM says whilst the Bishop is entitled to his views - she has concerns about his un-elected status.

The Bill will now have its clauses scrutinised by LegCo at its next sitting on Tuesday, 26 June.
