Toilet tax reform a step closer

A change to next year's so-called Toilet Tax - away from a flat rate of £100 to a fee linked to the rateable value of a property - has moved a step closer.

Standing Orders were suspended in the Legislative Council sitting to allow The Sewerage (Amendment) Bill to pass its stages and will now go to Tynwald next month.

Treasury is to start a revaluation of the Island's housing stock of around 40,000 properties early next year.

Manx Utilities Authority chairman Alfred Cannan says it’s designed to be fairer as part of a bigger picture of improvements.
