Claims of increase in guest numbers last year
Hotel bosses have admitted government's latest figures on tourism have come as 'something of a surprise'.
A sharp decline in passenger numbers - to the tune of 25,000 fewer visitors - was revealed in the Cabinet Office's 2017 Passenger Survey last week.
But doubt has been cast on the figures by the Department for Enterprise, which is responsible for promoting the Island as a destination.
Bosses have pointed to a busier TT and Southern 100 last year, increased demand at the airport, and interest from new hotels.
The Welbeck Hotel in Douglas reported a 10% increase in visitors in 2017.
