Trial for Ballabeg man accused of domestic abuse

50-year-old released from custody on bail

A Ballabeg man will stand trial after denying committing domestic abuse.

Kelvin Taylor, of Vicarage Close, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he entered a not guilty plea to the charge.

He's accused of displaying behaviour towards his wife that could, or did, cause physical or psychological harm between 5 June and 6 August.

A pre-trial review will take place on 16 November; the 50-year-old has been bailed on the condition he resides at Tromode House.

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 16 November a one-day trial was set down which will take place on 15 February 2024. 

Update: At Douglas Courthouse on 15 February the prosecutor offered no evidence on the domestic abuse charge. 

It was replaced, instead, with a charge of displaying conduct amounting to harassment which Taylor pleaded guilty to. 

He was sentenced to a 12 month probation order and a 12 month restraining order which bans him from contacting the complainant. 

He was also ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
