Doreen Kinrade was on the council for nearly 20 years and served as the town's mayor.
Writing on Facebook, South Douglas MHK David Cretney described her as a Manx Labour Party stalwart.
He finishes by saying, "We will miss you Doreen..Thanks for your good work for the citizens of Douglas".
Council leader David Christian added his thoughts, which included, "Rest in peace, Doreen you will be sadly missed. It was an honour to have you as a friend, not just a colleague."
