George Waft retired from politics in 2010
Tributes are being paid to former MHK and MLC George Waft, who's died at the age of 89.
Mr Waft represented the constituency of Onchan between 1991 and 1994, before joining the Legislative Council, where he remained a member until 2010.
Prior to serving in Tynwald, he spent two decades as an Onchan Commissioner.
Outside politics, Mr Waft worked for the Steam Packet Company and Merchant Navy, before embarking on a 30-year career as a psychiatric nurse.
For the last five years, he served as President of the Royal British Legion Onchan Branch. In a post on social media the branch said: "George will be remembered with great affection and gratitude for his service to the Branch and the wider Onchan community."
Current Onchan MHK Rob Callister said: "He served our community with dedication and commitment, and I know that many people across Onchan and the wider Isle of Man will be saddened by his passing."
