Campaigner "helped shape the broader Manx political narrative"

Tributes are being paid to one of the founders of the Positive Action Group, Roger Tomlinson, following his death.

He set up the group, which regularly organises meetings for the public to discuss current issues, 20 years ago, and served as chairman until last year.

In a tribute posted to PAG's Facebook page, member Damian Ciappelli said:

"Roger’s personal activism and drive under the PAG banner helped shape the broader Manx political narrative with a view to ensure that the Island’s governance met the highest democratic standards and ideals.

"During the course of Roger’s leadership he promoted the cause of FOI legislation which has been enacted and has become a ubiquitous keystone in improved transparency and governance on the Island. In no small way was that conversation prompted by Roger’s leadership of PAG.

"His understanding of the broader political landscape both on the Island and further afield was informed and insightful.

"The PAG Committee will miss his contribution and insight but is grateful for his many years of sustained contribution and commitment to the Island’s political discourse.

"The PAG Committee extends its sincere sympathy to Roger’s widow Jane and to his family."

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man Amnesty International praised his work to highlight human rights issues at PAG meeting.
