TT practice unaffected by medical emergency

Firefighters, ambulance and Air med crews were called to a medical emergency involving a six year old child in Kirk Michael last night.

They had fallen off their bike and were thought to be unconscious.

It happened at around 8pm.

Because the TT practice session was on, the child was taken to Noble's Hospital by helicopter, having been taken to the landing site by ground crews.

The practice session was unaffected.

Senior firefighter Carl Kinvig says it is an example of collaborative working between emergency services during TT.

He says it shows how important all the planning that goes on behind the scenes is.

He says having sufficient resources in the right place at the right time is crucial to both public safety and in allowing the TT festival to go ahead.

Mr Kinvig adds that the challenge going forward is to maintain this level of service whilst meeting the budgetary restraints on the service.
