Two new projects for Motiv8

Addiction services charity launches recovery hub, young peoples' service

The Island's dedicated addiction services charity officially launched two new projects this afternoon.

Motiv8, which is celebrating 40 years' service this year, has introduced a 'Recovery Hub' and a new specialist Young Peoples' service.

Addressing the crowd in attendance at the iMuseum in Douglas, CEO Thea Ozenturk reiterated the charity's commitment to evolving.

A new focus for the organisation is on addiction to gaming - Lyndsey Smart believes more than 20% of young people on the Island spend over three hours a day playing video games.

Mechanisms to deal with this is one of the targets of the new Young Peoples' service, part of which will involve education in schools.

The 'Recovery Hub', a self management and recovery training programme, helps those in recovery from addiction.

That's been running since April, and has already seen over 450 individuals in attendance.

Funding for both programmes comes from the Manx Lottery Trust - and is only in place for a one year 'pilot'.
