Two sentenced after daylight brawl

Incident captured on CCTV

Two men from Douglas have been sentenced following a daylight brawl.

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Ali Mahmoud El Meligy was on his way back home from completing part of a community service order from a previous affray conviction on 12 March last year.

As he passed Samuel Webb's pub, Alex Maddrell, 30, jumped on top of El Meligy before the pair traded blows and both were knocked to the ground.

A number of bystanders were in the vicinity witnessing the incident, which was also captured on CCTV.

A trial followed as Maddrell entered no plea and El Meligy pleaded not guilty when both men were charged with affray and later found guilty.

Sentencing, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said Maddrell was undoubtedly the instigator in the case.

He received a 14-week custodial sentence, suspended for two years.

El Meligy was sentenced to 10 weeks behind bars.

Both men have also been ordered to pay £500 in costs.
