Tynwald Day event to be held in London

'Reception' to be held in the Palace of Westminster on 1 July

A Tynwald Day event is set to be held in London next month ahead of the annual open-air ceremony here on the Island.

It's described as a reception which will 'help build understanding of the Island's place within the British family of nations'.

It will take place at Speaker's House in the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday 1 July and is the first in a series of planned events.

President of Tynwald Laurence Skelly and Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson will attend alongside senior figures from the UK Parliament and Government, Crown Dependencies, Overseas Territories, and the diplomatic community.

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan says it will be 'a great opportunity' and will help to 'strengthen relationships that could impact the Isle of Man's future'.

The event is sponsored by Andrew Rosindell MP, President of the Isle of Man All-Party Parliamentary Group, and Al Pinkerton MP, the Group's Vice-Chair.

Costs are being met from within the Manx government’s existing External Relations budget and venue hire fees will be donated to the Speaker's Art Fund, a House of Commons charity supporting arts and education initiatives across the UK.

The annual Tynwald Day ceremony will take will take place on Tynwald Hill in St John's on Monday, 6 July.
