Tynwald: from government debt to the size and cost of gov't

Penultimate meeting ahead of summer recess

Borrowing £400 million, the size, structure and cost of government and the economic impact of Covid-19 are among issues up for discussion in Tynwald today.

They make up just some of a bumper question and order paper for June's sitting.

Members are meeting for the penultimate time for this administration, ahead of the summer recess and the general election in September.

There are 36 questions for oral answer and 31 for written - plus 36 items on the order paper.

In questions politicians are to be probed on how much support has been paid out to each sector of the economy during the Covid pandemic.

Questions will also cover cancer screening, electric vehicle charging and the National Housing Strategy.

Onto the order paper and the Treasury minister will seek approval to borrow £400 million to refinance the Steam Packet and Manx Utilities debt and for future investment.

Members are also set to debate the size, structure and cost of government.
